Serra de Malcata discovery
Adventure Awaits
A long time ago there were more than two hundred houses full of life in this mountain. Children grew up with animals, gardens grew in abundance. The harsh conditions and so-called "development", however, took everybody away since the 40's... Now, Serra da Malcata is mostly uninhabited, and Nature took Men's place in what was once a very strong interaction between the both... Here and there one can still see traces of this long gone human presence. We will show you how people used to live together closely, but also share its strong and beautiful nature with you. The scenery of the Serra da Malcata hill range is full of fauna, frequently one finds foxes, deer, boars, eagles and others predatory birds. The Reserva Natural da Serra da Malcata was created in 1981, aimed to save the Iberian Lynx from extinction, a task that continues to be worked for.
Parts of this tour are better done walking. Of course, this is optional, but if you want to do so, please bring comfortable walking shoes
